Dr Amitava Datta is a professor of computer science at University of Western Australia. He is interested in the logical aspects of quantum mechanics, including quantum algorithms and quantum information.
Topic introduction:
Quantum non-locality is a very deep and strange aspect of quantum mechanics. Einstein famously called it 'spooky action at a distance'. In this talk we will try to understand this phenomenon without any mathematical background, purely from a logical point of view, as quantum mechanics gives us a very different logical framework different from our everyday experience. We will use a simple analogy of a coin, and show how non-locality presents us with deep philosophical questions. This talk will be accessible to everyone, including school students.
