The decolonization agenda has seen historic progress since 1946, with over 80 former colonies achieving independence under the auspices of the United Nations, that is a manifestation of the transformative power of the UN Charter and the Declaration.

Yet, the story of decolonization remains incomplete. Peoples in different regions continue to remain deprived of their right to self-determination, foremost among them the people of Palestine and the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

At the Special Political and Decolonization Committee (Fourth Committee) of the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, Permanent Representative of Pakistan to the UN, highlights how denial of the right to self-determination to Kashmiris and Palestinians continues to undermine peace and security in South Asia and the Middle East.
