Protests shut down Art Basel Paris two days early

Описание: Protesters just shut down the world's glitziest art fair — two days early.

Art Basel Paris is closing this Friday at 7pm instead of Sunday. Last
weekend's cost-of-living protests tipped into riots (2,000+ arrests),
and now a rally is set for Saturday at 4pm right outside the Grand
Palais — with the fair itself named as the target.

211 galleries from 41 countries are eating the cost. Some paid over
€100,000 per booth. Compensation? "Too early" to discuss, says Art
Basel. Meanwhile a Julie Mehretu sold for $7.8M in previews, and
artist Alicja Kwade already yanked her 14-foot sculpture off the plaza
ahead of the "announced riots."

Saturday: tear gas outside, billions in art inside. How close should
art get to the street?
