"Slack" is the force that builds across a trains couplers as the train begins to move forward. The force of slack increases exponentially further back in the train. So the bigger the train, the more slack to the rear.
Delaware-Lackawanna PT98, 15 April 2017. Contrary to how the video lines up, the ambulance did not smash into us; that was the impact of 90+ cars of coupler slack expanding.
