This 25 minute video begins with a 5 minute overview of ethnographic research methods and follows with an interview with Professor Hochschild, in which she discusses her practical, theoretical, philosophical and ethical approach to ethnography. Arlie Russell Hochschild is Professor Emerita of Sociology at Univesrity of California at Berkeley. Her many awards and honors include Guggenheim, Fulbright, and Mellon fellowships and the Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Sociological Association. She has written numerous articles and authored and edited ten books. Her most recent book, Strangers in Their Own Land, was a National Book Award Finalist.
Liberty Barnes, Ph.D., is a medical sociologist and author of the forthcoming ethnography, The Children's Hospital. Her first book, Conceiving Masculinity, won the 2015 Sociology of Health and Illness Book of the Year Prize.
