The Battle of Chasiv Yar | Did Russia Just Capture This Ukrainian Stronghold?

This video appears to show soldiers waving Russian flags from destroyed buildings in what they claim marks a landmark victory in Chasiv Yar.

But Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has denied Russia's claims, calling it "disinformation".
“Ukrainian units are defending our positions and we are ultimately repelling every Russian attempt to advance in the Donetsk, Sumy, and Kharkiv regions." said Zelensky.

Chasiv Yar lies in the industrial Donbas area of Ukraine’s Donetsk region - one of the areas which Moscow claimed to have annexed in 2022.
Before the war over 12,000 people lived here. But after 2 years of fighting much of the town has been decimated.
It’s considered to be a Ukrainian stronghold, with its geography and elevation allowing forces to dig in within its factories and apartment blocks.

The battle for Chasiv Yar marks one of the longest since the Russian invasion.
Over 18 months Ukrainian forces have defended the town through relentless shelling, air strikes, glide bombing and Russian drone attacks.

Experts fear that if Russia takes Chasiv Yar, it would mark a significant shift on the Eastern front of the conflict.
It could allow Russian forces to advance towards the "fortress city" of Kostiantynivka and move troops westwards across the rest of Donetsk.

Ukrainian open-source monitoring group DeepState, have recently claimed that Ukrainian forces continue to hold parts of Chasiv Yar’s southern and western neighborhoods.
But the Russian claims mark yet another blow for Kyiv as they try to defend the sprawling front line in eastern and southern Ukraine.
