Following their swearing-in last week, 522 MPs of the 11th parliament sat to elect their new leader.
After several hours of voting, the house chose Jacob Oulanyah to be the Speaker with 310 votes.
He was followed in second place by Rebecca Kadaga at 197 votes.
Third placed Ibrahim Semujju Nganda secured 15 votes. Following his election, the speaker pledged to uplift the standards of the house debate, moving to ensure quality debates.
