The weather forecast across South Africa today is as follows:
Good day, South Africa! Today, as low pressure systems move closer from the west, we can expect severe thunderstorms in many areas. Heavy rain, strong winds, and hail are likely from the early hours, but conditions should start to clear from the west as we head into the afternoon and evening. The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued an Orange Level 5 warning for severe thunderstorms in the eastern Northern Cape, northern Eastern Cape, and the far western Free State. Expect heavy downpours that could cause flooding on roads and low-lying areas, strong winds, lots of lightning, and hail that may damage buildings and infrastructure. A Yellow Level 2 warning is also in place for severe thunderstorms in several regions, including central Northern Cape, north-eastern Western Cape, southern Eastern Cape, the western interior of Free State, far western North West, the southern escarpment of Mpumalanga, and most of KwaZulu-Natal except the north-east. These storms could bring localised flooding, damage to infrastructure, strong winds, lightning, and hail.
