STORY: In South Africa's new political climate, the National Party
and the Inkatha movement seem to be attracting more multi-racial
members than the African National Congress. In fact, unless the ANC
can increase its membership across the racial spectrum, it's been
predicted that future elections could result in a National-Inkatha
coalition acquiring forty percent of the vote. The ANC's past
connections with the armed struggle and communism are seen to be
obstacles to recruitment.
