October Sun is a love song to a time of the year filled with exquisite beauty. The original poem's words capturing subtleties in the changing of the seasons, October Sun is depicted as a witness to this transition, living each day as the giver of life and the overseer of the earth. Musically there is a relentless tugging towards the dominant, rarely escaping to a resolution but instead returning to its beginning. Each return to the "October Sun" refrain brings with it a new flavor, guiding the piece through the transition to winter step by step. The relative minor peeks through with ever-increasing prominence, as if it brings with it the cold itself. Finally, with "its refrains...echo fast away until the spring" the music ebbs away in a contented state; a harmonic marriage of the beginning and the end, and the season of autumn completely encapsulated under the sun.
