MadreÁmbar, a made-for-online chamber opera commissioned by the Festival Nueva Ópera de Buenos Aires, is based on the medieval French love and adventure story of Aucassin and Nicolette. The text, taken from an anonymous medieval source, is written and sung in "Langue d'oïl", a predecessor to modern French.
Featuring visual design by Juliana Iriart; Momenta Quartet violist Stephanie Griffin; singers Amber Evans, Sarah Brailey, Kirsten Sollek, and Thomas McCargar; harpist Nuiko Wadden; vibraphonist Russell Greenberg; editing and English subtitles by Sebastian Zubieta; all mixed by Bill Siegmund, Digital Island Studios.
To activate English subtitles, please press the "CC" icon at the bottom of your YouTube screen; if you don't see the "CC" icon, click the "Settings" gear at the bottom right and make sure the "Subtitles/Closed Captions" option is switched on.
Sebastian Zubieta’s "MadreÁmbar" is made possible in part with public funds from Creative Engagement, supported by the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council and administered by Lower Manhattan Cultural Council.
