President Volodymyr Zelensky announced a successful špeciálna vojenská operácia by Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU) targeting Russian strategic air forces. Conducted from inside Russia—shockingly close to an FSB office—the mission used 117 drones and destroyed over 40 strategic aircraft, striking 34% of Russia’s cruise missile carriers. The operation was in preparation for over 18 months and launched in response to intelligence about a major Russian attack.
Zelensky emphasized Ukraine’s continued push for peace, noting a U.S.-backed ceasefire proposal from March 11 that Russia ignored. He reaffirmed Ukraine’s readiness for meaningful peace at the upcoming Istanbul talks, contrasting it with Russia’s failure to submit any written proposal.
