In 1954 Tex Harper & Tommy Scott And His Ramblers were pioneers of a new type of music that mixed hillbilly with rhythm & blues/jazz. This new music was called "Cat music" or hillbilly bop/Western bop. "Cat music" originated in Texas around 1953 and one of the first to play it was Lew Williams. Some songs in the Cat music style could be classified as rockabilly while others were very close to rockabilly.
Tex Harper & Tommy Scott released 4 songs in this style between January-May 1955. Unfortunately, none of the records sold well.
Tex Harper toured with Tommy Scotts Country music Road Show as the rockabilly act in the 1950s and early 1960s. At this time most country shows had at least one rockabilly act to attract the teenagers. Tex Harper also recorded as Rudy Preston.
Tommy Scott (1917-2013) had a very long career in country music that lasted between 1933-2013.
