Welcome back to the Stephen Jeung Channel! Today I’m taking you along to Out of Ordi, the Koreatown bakery that went viral for its buttery Korean salt bread. After starting as a home pop‑up, husband‑and‑wife duo Gemma Lee and Luis Kim opened their brick‑and‑mortar shop at 3524 W 8th St in Los Angeles. Their specialty looks like a cross between a croissant and a rollie pollie and it’s not overly salty – the dough is buttery, slightly sweet and topped with flakes of sea salt, with a piece of butter inside that melts into a rich, moist interior . Come early because the bakery opens at 11:30 AM, sells out in under two hours and limits you to four pieces per person .
Inside the box you’ll be hit by the aroma of freshly baked bread; the pastries have a deep hazelnut‑brown crust with soft matcha‑green and cream‑white swirls that are truly photogenic . Each bite of the airy bread balances the saltiness of the dough with sweet fillings like black sesame, matcha, pistachio, corn cream and roasted soybean powder . Beyond bread there are creative drinks such as sweet corn matcha and salted butterscotch lattes . Everything is packaged in eye‑catching boxes decorated with bold typography and their bear mascot .
In this video I’ll share why I think Out of Ordi is a gem, which flavors were my favorites, and whether the long lines are worth it. I’ll also give you tips on how to beat the crowd and make the most of your visit. Have you tried Out of Ordi or any other Korean salt bread spots? Let me know in the comments!
