Name calling is emotional abuse when it is used to control someone or belittle. It doesn’t matter what the intention of the name caller is. If the person being called names doesn’t like what is being said, it is the responsibility of the name caller to stop. Emotional abuse, also called verbal abuse, is when someone wants to control and manipulate and does this by putting others down. Name calling is never ok. Name calling is used by narcissists, and other abusers, as a way to put others down so they feel better about themselves. Name calling is belittling and can lead to low self esteem. What are signs of emotional abuse? Emotional abuse is mean to control and if someone says something to you and you feel uncomfortable, then you are likely experiencing emotional abuse if the other person doesn’t change. If you tell your boyfriend what they said hurts you and they say you are being too sensitive, then you might think my boyfriend says im too sensitive. If my partner calls me names and my partner calls me names to be mean then I will know that they are being emotionally abusive and not just joking with me. Why do people name call? Narcissists call you names to control. That is the bottom line and there is no other reason the narcissist name calls. It is not because they care about you or because they are joking. If you tell then you don’t like what they say to you and they blame you for their response then it is abusive. Relationships with narcissists are toxic relationships because they do things they want and don’t care about anyone else.
