Everyone knows about Bungsamran a very popular lake on the out skirts of Bangkok but now with them charging 4000B ($125) just for the single rod ticket maybe you would like to know about other options. 4000B for a day ticket but you will need to add to this, bait + bungalow + rod and real rental + guide + landing net. Well you get the idea it soon builds up to cost anywhere from 7000B ($220) and more depending on the bungalow you choose.

There are many other lesser known options around Bangkok that can offer a great days fishing at a much lower cost. I am lucky enough to live in Bangkok and have been to visit many of the smaller less well-known lakes available within a 1-2-hour drive of the downtown. In this video we visited Nu-wan Jan fishing park บ่อตกปลานวลจันทร์ฟิชชิ่งปาร์ค. This lake is just 10 minutes from Suvarnabhumi Airport. There are 2 lakes at this fishing park. The larger of the 2 lakes is where I fished. This lake is full of striped catfish. The fish I caught where all around 3-6 KG, but I am told they go up to 10 KG and there are even a few Mekong catfish in there. There are also Indian carp, tilapia, common carp and tinfoil barb in this lake. Fishing this lake will cost you 100B ($3) per rod per day and 100B for a large bucket of bred. The bites come very fast here. If I waited more than a minute I was surprised. The fish are not monsters but they take off like a rocket giving you a really good thrill. They also have rods to rent for 300B per day at the main reception. At this lake many anglers will take the fish home to eat but they generally only take home the tilapia and Barramundi as they are better for eating. If you want to take the fish home, you just need to weigh the fish before you leave and pay per KG.
The 2nd lake is a lure lake for barramundi fishing. This lake is 200B per day. Although this lake is supposedly for lure fishing when I took a walk around the lake, I seen several guys fishing with bread to get tilapia. My friend did tell me that there is barramundi in there as he has seen people catch them before.
There is even a large tank in the restaurant where you can shrimp fish. This is 100B per hour and anything you catch you can take home.
They have toilets in the main building, the food is fine, and they have plenty of drinks to keep you refreshed. I must have caught 20 fish in 4 hours. If you are looking for some fast action this is a good spot. I think this lake would be very good for kids as you will have enough fish to keep the kid’s attention and with the average size being 3-6 KG a young kid could fight this fish and have a good day.
