I originally saw this drill taught by Isaku Kageyama. It's a good drill for a couple of reasons. Firstly it helps to improve your non dominant hand, as the pattern is played with both a right and left hand lead. Secondly it helps improve the distinction between light and emphasised beats, particularly playing quiet beats on the upstroke. (allowing the tip of your bachi to tap the drum as you pull your arm up).
