কাহিনী সংক্ষেপঃ ‘মেধাবী নাজিফা ছাত্রী অবস্থায় তার পরিবারের অসম্মতিতে বাউন্ডুলে মিতুলকে ভালোবেসে বিয়ে করে ফেলে। এর ফলে নাজিফার বাবা মেয়েকে ত্যাজ্য করেন। নাজিফার শ্বাশুড়ি, নাজিফার প্রতি মমত্ব অনুভব করেন। নাজিফাও তার শ্বাশুড়িকে ভালবেসে ফেলে। শ্বাশুড়ি অসুস্থ হলে নাজিফা ও মিতুল প্রায় দেড় বছর সেবা শশ্র“ষা করে শ্বাশুড়িকে বাঁচিয়ে তোলে। এর মাঝেই জন্ম নেয় আরিয়ানা। পারিবারিক এসব ঝঞ্ঝাটের কারণে নাজিফার নিজের পড়াশোনাটা আর হয়না। মেয়ের বয়স যখন মাত্র ছয় মাস, তখনই নাজিফার জীবনে সব থেকে বড় আঘাতটা আসে। গার্মেন্টসের ঝুট ব্যবসাকে কেন্দ্র করে মিতুল খুন হয়ে যায়। অন্যদিকে মিতুলের বড় ভাই নিজের মায়ের কোন খোঁজ রাখেন না। নাজিফা নিজের সন্তানের আর শ্বাশুড়ির জীবন বাঁচাতে ঢাকা শহরে ছোট একটা চাকরি করতে শুরু করে। নাজিফার বাবা-মা মেয়ের পাশে দাঁড়াতে চান, কিন্তু অভিমানী নাজিফা তা প্রত্যাখ্যান করে।’
