The Penang World Music Festival (PWMF) 2013 held on 30 & 31 of March at the picturesque Quarry Park at Penang Botanic Garden saw 12 music groups from 13 countries including Malaysia kept the festival goers got under the musical spell with diverse genres and leaving the audience asking for more with their fine performances.

PWMF was divided into two sessions each day, having a workshop session in the afternoon from 2pm to 6pm. These workshop sessions are conducted by members of the participating bands which are grouped under the wind, strings, percussion and so on. The workshop sessions were opened to the members of the public and students and all these sessions were free for those holding the night shows tickets.

The night performances were entry by tickets which were priced at RM RM80 per day for an adult and RM30 per day for a child between five and 12 years old.

The Penang State Government hosted a welcome reception at the heritage building Khoo Kongsi at Cannon Square for the performing band members, invited guests and members of the local and foreign media were treated to popular Penang street hawkers' food.

The festival ended with a finale jammed session by all the bands that had performed at PWMF 2013 artiste and the audience gave a deserving thunderous applause for their wonderful performances.

"Saharadja" from Bali, Indonesia was formed in Bali in 2002 by acclaimed Indonesian trumpeter and vocalist Rio Sidik, and Western Australian violinist Sally Jo. This energetic 8 piece group plays range of instruments including the trumpet, electric violin, didgeridoo, sitar, djembe, sarod, darabuka, Irish tin whistle, congas, fretless bass, drums and a large assortment of percussion instruments.

Their free form jazz roots are evident in their sound and the improvisatory nature of jazz has allowed them to branch into a terrific range of rhythmic traditions deriving from India, the Middle East, continental Europe, South America, Africa, China, and the British Isles.
