A week or so ago I was watching Shug's (aka shugemery) ''Superior Hiking Trail...Leveaux Mt. to Cross River'' video where he showed that he was using a Fancy Feast Stove on his solo hike. This reminded me of a stove that I made last winter but hadn't done a boil test on yet.
This past winter I made a stove for melting snow or ice out of a cat food can, a tomato paste can and a piece of carbon felt. It was a variation on the Venom stove that I tested previously. Don't get me wrong. The Venom stove is a nice stove, you can find them on ebay, but I needed a bit more fuel capacity.
I wanted a stove for melting snow that used a carbon felt wick instead of jets because a jetted stove tends to be hard to light in lower temperatures. When you have a wick stove there isn't that much of a problem unless it's so cold that the alcohol freezes. But then methanol has a freezing point of -143.86°F (-97.7°C)
The problem was we ( here in Eastern Pennsylvania) didn't get much snow this past winter so I didn't get to go out and do a video test with the stove and I put it away and forgot about it until Shug's video reminded me of the un-tested stove. So here I am.
Just for weight comparisions:
The Venom stove: 1.7 ounces (48.2 grams)
The Fancy Feast Stove: .85 ounces (24.1 grams)
One important note. If you make this stove, don't forget the hole I showed at the top of the tomato can. If you forget this the vapor build-up could force alcohol up through the carbon felt and make one heck of a dangerous situation.

I thank Shug for his videos,
and I thank you for watching mine,
