-The First Reading (Daniel 3:25, 34-43): Azariah stands in the midst of the fire and prays, pleading with God not to take away His mercy for the sake of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel. He confesses that the people have become "lowlier than any other nation" because of their sins, and begs that their contrite hearts be accepted as a sacrifice pleasing to the Lord.
-The Responsorial Psalm (Ps 25): A song of trust in God’s guidance: "Remember your mercies, O Lord".
-The Holy Gospel (Matthew 18:21-35): Peter asks Jesus how often he must forgive a brother, suggesting seven times. Jesus replies, "not seven times but seventy-seven times," and tells the parable of a servant whose massive debt was forgiven by a king, only for that servant to refuse to forgive a small debt owed to him. Jesus warns that the Heavenly Father will treat us the same way if we do not "forgive your brother from your heart".

May the holy partaking of this mystery grant us both the pardon we seek and the protection we need on our Lenten journey.
