August 22, 2023: On a hazy August morning the sun is barely visible above the horizon as the Amtrak California Zephyr rolls through Plattsmouth, NE, crosses the Missouri River into Iowa and picks up speed eastward through Pacific Junction, Glenwood, Malvern, Hastings, Emerson, Red Oak, and Standton. After a loss of electrical power (HEP) just west of Villisca, the scenery picks back up in a foggy Brooks, IA and the California Zephyr continues through the fog to its next station stop of Creston, IA.
Includes ambient audio*, map, speed, altitude**, distance, and local time.
