Ever wondered what happens when an engine is so advanced it gets banned from competition? This video showcases the sheer power of Ford engines, highlighting the history of engine development and performance with vintage footage. We explore how advanced engine technology and its dominance in competitions shaped automotive history, featuring a close-up of a powerful engine and the exciting engine sound of a racing car.
In 1964, Chrysler showed up at Daytona with the 426 Hemi and swept the top five finishing positions. Ford went home and built the 427 Single Overhead Cam — the Cammer — rated at 616 horsepower. NASCAR banned both engines. Chrysler pulled out of the entire 1965 season. Ford threatened to follow.
Two of the three biggest manufacturers in America refused to race. Because of two engines.
In this video, HighOctane Legends breaks down the full story: the Hemi's secret development and its Daytona debut, Ford's Cammer engineering from scratch, why both engines were banned, what the 1965 boycott actually cost NASCAR, and what both engines did when they hit the street and the drag strip.
Every number in this video is sourced from period documentation: dyno sheets, contemporary road tests, NHRA and NASCAR official records. No mythology — just what the data says.
