Series feedback amplifiersfeed a small part of the output signal back in series with the input signal. Because the feedback is added in line with the input, the amplifier becomes more stable and predictable. This type of feedback increases input impedance, reduces noise and distortion, and makes the gain less sensitive to component changes. Series feedback is easy to understand for beginners because it often appears naturally, such as when an emitter resistor is used in a transistor amplifier. It is commonly used in audio and sensor signal amplification where clean and stable voltage signals are needed.
Shunt feedback amplifiersfeed a portion of the output signal back in parallel with the input, creating an alternate path for the signal. Since the feedback is connected across the input, it reduces input impedance and gives better control over current flow. Like series feedback, shunt feedback improves stability and reduces distortion, but it is more suitable for current-type amplification. Shunt feedback is often used in transistor and current amplifiers where controlling input current is more important than maintaining a high input impedance.
