Hiking Hurricane Ridge feels like you’re walking on the roof of the Olympic National Park. Here the distant mountains appear like white-capped waves filling the horizon. At the Hurricane Hill summit, the Strait of Juan de Fuca glimmers in the distance.
The hike starts near the Hurricane Ridge Visitor Center at an elevation of 5,242-feet and rises to a peak of 5,757 feet. This popular, paved 3.2 to 3.4-mile roundtrip trail to Hurricane Hill offers a 515-foot elevation gain, features wildflowers and frequent wildlife sightings. You’ll share your day with marmots lounging like sunbathers and deer drifting quietly through the alpine forest. This is a place where the air is fresh and with every step comes with a new breath-taking horizon.
To get there, begin in Port Angeles, climbing the 17-mile Hurricane Ridge Road as it corkscrews up through thick evergreen forest before bursting into alpine meadows.
