Dunbar RNLI Lifeboats Making of Documentary - [Behind the Scenes Making of Video]

The video project was coordinated by late friend and filmmaker, Drew Fleming in collaboration with RNLI Dunbar and the Edinburgh Cine and Video Society which I was a member of. Multiple shoots took place over several months capturing as much footage as possible to help capture and promote the work of the RNLI.

Dunbar Lifeboat Station is situated in the East Lothian town of Dunbar on the South East Coast of Scotland, part of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution. The station currently has a Trent Class all weather lifeboat and a D class inshore lifeboat. At time of recording Gary Fairbairn was the coxswain.

We initially filmed at Dunbar Torness Power Station a mock rescue launch of the RNLI lifeboat which involved members of the video crew to record from a high vantage point while others take to boats to capture some of the shots taken at sea. The RNLI crew members kindly demonstrated what their response would look like if ever a real life rescue was required.

The second day of shooting involved filming a RNLI inshore rescue boat and mock rescue which was arranged by the RNLI crew at Dunbar simulating a rescue of a person stranded at sea providing members of ECVS with photo opportunities which went very well. Some members were on boats while others on shore.

Further filming days included a shoot capturing footage from Dunbar's annual gala day which features heavily the RNLI and there was another celebration event we filmed on a day when it poured down with rain. We also captured a few shots of the RNLI shop and edited together a fun behind the scenes video here.
