Mark Eric Bronstad Beloved husband, dad, papa, son, brother, and friend
"Remarkable." That was the nickname Mo Bronstad gave his fourth and final child, Mark Eric Bronstad (Feb. 21, 1966-Feb. 17, 2026), and the moniker proved prescient. In just shy of 60 years, he lived a remarkable life. He grew up in San Antonio, where he burned through two or three big wheels racing around the cul-de-sac with his lifelong friend Carl Posch.
Always an outdoorsman, he loved Rocky Mountain National Park where he hiked and was remarkably able to hook elusive trout in the lakes and streams in the park. Mark was a Boy Scout and, at Oliver Wendell Holmes high school, a technical theatre nerd. It was in high school that he met the love of his life, Lori Lindsey, although they didn’t start dating until after graduation.
He attended Stephen F. Austin in Nacogdoches where he was introduced to his second love: horticulture. He excelled in the art and science of growing things where his favorite professor recommended that Ted Doremus hire him right out of school for his nursey in Warren, Texas.
Mark married Lori and settled in, helping build up the business. Then along came daughter Jessica, the favorite thing he ever helped grow. Mark spent his whole career at Doremus Nursery, eventually building their home on the grounds where he had a remarkable two-minute commute. It was a demanding and rewarding vocation where he became like a son to his boss.
Their home in the woods was often opened up to others in need and hosted many New Year’s Eve gatherings featuring fireworks and exploding pumpkins. Baptized a Lutheran by his maternal grandfather, Mark and his family attended Woodville Methodist Church, where he was always around to pitch in, including playing in the bell choir.
In 2023, he was diagnosed with cancer and endured surgeries, radiation, chemotherapy and immunotherapy. Then following an incredible trip to Italy, the cancer reappeared. Mark fought hard, wanting to be there for Lori, Jessica and JJ, his grandsons, his boss and his staff. He made one last trip to the Rocky Mountains last July, and when the time came to return Home to his Heavenly Father, he passed peacefully with Lori holding his hand. Mark was a remarkable husband, dad, papa, son, brother, friend, employee and supervisor.
The family wants to thank all those who were there for him, especially his medical team at MD Anderson, dear friends Bob and Debbie Driver, who often hosted Mark and Lori while he was undergoing treatment in Houston, and the rest of the “cabin” crew.
Mark is survived by Lori, Jessica and husband JJ Bronstad, grandsons Maverick and Marshall Bronstad, his parents Mo and Roxie Bronstad, sisters Kandi (& Randy) Fuchs and Deb (& Greg) Schmid, brother Scott (& Niki) Bronstad, and nieces and nephews Matthew Schmid and Ariel (& Josh Nichols) Schmid, Amy and Travis Fuchs, Alyssa and Shelby Bronstad, and Kirby (& Jake) Courtney.
A celebration of Mark’s remarkable life will take place March 7, 2026, at 1 p.m. at Woodville Methodist Church, 508 W. Bluff Street, Woodville, Texas.
