Zimbabwean Jazz, also known as Afro Jazz was developed in the 20th century. Its history can be traced from its early colonial era.
The primary saxophonist and leader of the Zimbabwean jazz ensemble Jabavu Drive (often referred to as the Jabavu Jazz Band) is Philip Svosve.
Key Saxophonists
Philip Svosve (Band Leader): A veteran musician who founded Jabavu Drive in 1997 alongside bassist Nicholas Mugona. Svosve is a prolific saxophonist, lyricist, and composer known for his history with James Chimombe and the Ocean City Band.
Roger Hukuimwe ("The Doc"): A medical doctor who also performs as a saxophonist and vocalist for the group.
