Tchegera island is known for its distinct crescent shape, which is actually the top crater rim of a long-extinct volcano. On clear nights, the island offers spectacular views of Nyiragongo and Nyamuragira with their glowing red lava piercing the star-covered sky. The two highest Virunga volcanoes, Mikeno and Karisimbi, can also be seen from Tchegera as well as sweeping
Tchegera is only a 10 to 15 minute boat ride from Goma. When you reach the island you receive a warm welcome by the staff, who in my case handed me my favorite fresh juice.
Once here you can have quiet time in one of the resting? Hidden? Cozy? Secluded? spots on the island. Or you can take part in a variety of activities, like paddleboarding, kayaking,
Bird watching and nature walks, or Snorkeling in the clear waters of Lake Kivu.
