Video animation to show that the best way for sailing and vessels under 20m to avoid impeding the safe passage of a vessel that can only navigate safely within the channel may be to stay outside the channel altogether. There is often sufficient water close outside channel-markers. Note that the vessel on the right, by use of chart, echo-sounder and tidal height calculations takes a direct route – including across a drying area.
