Lucifer's Friend were an excellent heavy metal band from the early 70s who often drifted into prog - on this, their third album, they flirted briefly with funk. The album is flawed overall but has its moments, such as this killer opening track. If you're new to the band, check out their first two albums first (especially the first, self-titled LP from 1970!).
