Real Timelapse Video of Exoplanet Beta Pictoris b Orbiting Its Star

Описание: This is a real timelapse video of exoplanet Beta Pictoris b using 17 years of footage collected between 2003 and 2020. Beta Pictoris b is a gas giant exoplanet that takes an extremely long time to orbit its star, so the video shows the exoplanet completing roughly 75 percent of one full orbit. This is a rare and amazing glimpse of an exoplanet in motion, and it offers scientists a unique opportunity to study its orbit and atmosphere.

The timelapse video is created by Jason Wang. Wang is an assistant professor of physics and astronomy in Northwestern’s Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences and member of the Center for Interdisciplinary Exploration and Research in Astrophysics (CIERA).
