Pandit Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar, an embodiment of Bengali Language and Education and an iconic stalwart of Bengal in its Social Movement during Nineteenth century, had spent the latter part of his life in the semi-rural locality of Karmatar (Jamtara District) in Jharkhand state of India.
He taught the local tribal children and served medicine to the under-privileged people of the region. A museum, ‘Vidyasagar Smriti Bhawan’ (the house where Pandit Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar lived in Karmatar), has been established by ‘Vidyasagar Smriti Raksha Samity’ at Nandan Kanan in Karmatar.
In this episode of Rural Bioscope, we get an overview of Nandan Kanan in Karmatar. Mr. Debashish Mishra narrates about the history of the place and gives a vivid description of the trees in the campus, those were planted by Pandit Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar himself.
