In the third year, fifth month, when the moon had died its light,
On the day of jiaxu, in the palace bright,
The King in Zhou, 'mid Kang and Zhao's sacred hall,
At dawn he came to the Grand Hall, assuming throne so tall.

Superintendent Yin led me, Song, through the gate so wide,
We stood in the courtyard center, with reverence as our guide.
Sir Yin passed the ling shu scroll to the King's own hand,
The King called Secretary Guosheng across the land.

The King says: "Song! Rise and hear my decree,
Oversee the merchants in Chengzhou city,
Watch the new arrivals, supply the palace true,
With jacket black and embroidered, red apron for you!

Scarlet girdle shining,
banner with jingles bright,
Bronze-studded bridle for your horse in flight.
Take office now, serve with honor and might!"

I, Song, bowed low in obeisance deep,
Prostrated myself, the command to keep.
