Pro-Russian separatists repeatedly shell Donetsk as residents despair: 'Why is nobody saving us?'

Several districts of the city were partially without power after explosions, Russian state agency RIA Novosti reported.

A body lay covered on a street of the city’s Kyivskyi district as residents assessed the damage caused by the shelling.

"Have we not suffered enough?'' said a Donetsk resident. "How much longer until this is over?''

West of Donetsk, Russian forces took over the towns of Berdyansk and Enerhodar in Ukraine's Zaporizhzhya region as well as the area around the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant, Interfax quoted Russia's defence ministry as saying on Monday.

But they ran into stiff resistance elsewhere as the biggest assault on a European state since World War Two failed to make as much ground as some had expected.
