International Car Forest of the Last Church - Goldfield, Nevada

Описание: The International Car Forest of the Last Church is located in the historic mining town of Goldfield, Nevada, the largest open air art gallery of its kind in the United States. It's completely free to enter and explore and is open 24/7, but you can leave a donation if you like. The forest is the creation of artists Mark Rippie and Chad Sorg. Sorg had been driving through Goldfield when he noticed a lone car upright in the desert sand and pulled off to check it out. Rippie, who had owned these 80 acres adjacent to the highway, had an ambitious project to set the Guinness world record for the most upturned vehicles in an art work. The record at the time was 39 at Carhenge inn Nebraska. From then on the duo made it their mission to “plant” the cars into the ground using Rippie’s already amassed collection of junk vehicles. They then used backhoes, typically after midnight, to avoid the desert’s brutal heat while digging, filling and placing the cars. Eventually the car forest was abandoned, from a falling out between Sorg and Rippie, and today the International Car Forest functions as an open canvas, inviting artistic engagement.
