Islam is the third-largest religion in Mauritius, with Muslims accounting for approximately 17-18% of the population, largely descended from the migration of Indian indentured laborers during the British colonial era. The Muslim community is divided into ethnic and linguistic groups such as the Memon, Surtee, and Hindi Calcattias, with the majority practicing Sunni Islam. There are numerous mosques throughout the country, including the historic Jummah Mosque in the capital, Port Louis, and the country is a welcoming destination for Muslims.
