In this week’s video we are talking about the Justice System.
Please Note: The Canadian justice system is far from perfect, and many times it falls short of what it was built to be, however, this video covers the basics of how the system is structured in order to better understand the elements of the system. Please do not take this video to mean that the Canadian justice system always lives up to how it was structured, or, that the system was built equitably. This video is intended for newcomers to understand how the system in Canada may be built differently from the systems that they have experienced in their home countries (if it is different at all!).
Law is based on the Criminal Code of Canada and is split into 2 general groups: Private and public law. From there, you have Bylaws that are made by a city or town! If you get into trouble with the law you could go to court where they decide if you are guilty or not. Watch the video to learn more!
