Описание: Charles "Buster" Shaeff, Jr., Navy 2nd Class Motor Machine Mate, recalls his experience on a Higgins Boat on D-Day. His role in the invasion was to transport troops to the beach and bring the wounded back to the Landing Ship. Although stationed on LST 291, during the invasion he helped operate a Landing Craft, Vehicle, Personnel (LCVP), also referred to as a Higgins Boat or Small Boat, to transport soldiers and vehicles. Shaeff made three trips, back to back. On the third, his LCVP hit a hedgehog the Germans placed in the water along the beach destroying the boat.
