The DI is an assessment of the Democratic bona fide of 167 countries using a five-step metric involving 60 questions to score each country from 1 (the lowest) to 10 (highest score).
The countries are categorized into four broad categories; Full democracy, Flawed democracy, Hybrid regimes & Authoritarian regimes.
The Full democracy are nations with the best practices of democracy ethos; supremacy of the rule of law, independence of judiciary, guarantee of civil liberties, a well functioning government, free & independent media, etc. Examples are Canada, U.K, France, Germany, Scandinavia, Taiwan, Japan, South Korea, Costa Rica, Chile, etc. Only 8% of global population live in these countries….
