Federal prosecutors say two former Alabama superintendents and others conspired to create fake report cards and falsify documents as part of a wide-ranging scheme. Officials say the defendants fraudulently inflated enrollment data at northern Alabama online schools and then stole reimbursements from state education funds Officials announced Tuesday that former Athens City Schools and Limestone County Schools educators were among six people indicted on conspiracy, identity theft and fraud charges. Prosecutors say nearly $7 million in state funds were improperly allocated to the districts during the yearslong conspiracy. Officials say the private school students weren't aware their identities were used.
