July 19/2022 Summer Hike

Today we are hiking up to Troll Falls in the Evan-Thomas Provincial Recreation Area, in Kananaskis Country, Alberta Canada. There are 3 beautiful waterfalls here, Troll Falls, Marmot Falls and Upper Falls. The Trail is 6.4 kilometers out and back with an elevation gain of 250 meters.
Originally, we had only planned to hike up to Troll Falls, as this is the first time my sister has been out hiking since her knee surgery. We managed to visit all 3 waterfalls. I have only been here in the winter so this was new to me seeing it in the summer. As well they have done a lot of work to the parking area and to the trail, since I was last here.

There is a very wide trail here at the start. There is a little up and down over the first kilometer. At .9k you arrive at a beautiful lookout area. There are a couple wooden teepees along the trail which kids really like. At 1.3k you will arrive at a little creek with a bridge over it. The trail then opens up a little bit to the right. At 1.6k you will be heading back into the trees. Soon you will arrive at Marmot Creek on your right. At 2k you will arrive at Troll Falls. There are railings here at the viewpoint, to prevent people from climbing up to these falls. If you need to sit down here, there are a lot of rocks placed as benches. To get up to Marmot Falls you will cross a bridge and follow the trail. This is where I really noticed all the work they have done on this trail. Now you will start and get a little bit of elevation gain. You will then reach an intersection, if you go right you can head up to the Upper Falls. If you go left, you head to the second set of falls, Marmot Falls. I recommend going to Marmot Falls, as you can then proceed to the Upper Falls after that. Its about .5k from the first set of falls to Marmot Falls. At 2.6k you will arrive at Marmot Falls. This is my favourite set of falls as you can walk right under them. After a brief rest we continued up the stairs to the Upper Falls. This is the nicest part of the hike. Soon Marmot Creek will be on your left and as you proceed up the trail there are numerous little waterfalls along the way. At around 3k you will arrive at the Upper Falls. These are the largest of the 3 waterfalls. On the way back you can take a different trail and miss the second set of falls, but we went back the way we came.

I really enjoyed seeing these 3 waterfalls in the summer. I would recommend getting there early, as the trail can get very busy later in the day. There were lots of families and people of all ages here. A great little hike to beat the heat. If you would like to see these falls in the winter I have a couple videos up on my channel.
