Varje år på senvåren äger en konsert rum i Höjeådalens dammar. Hanar av ätlig groda (Pelophylax kl. esculentus) försöker vinna honornas hjärtan med ibland öronbedövande kväkande. De mest populära platserna är kvarndammen i Klostergårdens hästhage och den lilla dammen mellan andra och tredje dammen på Lunds reningsverk. Ätlig groda är inte en biologisk art i egentlig bemärkelse, utan snarare en hybrid mellan gölgroda (Pelophylax lessonae) och sjögroda (Pelophylax ridibundus). På grund av speciella genetiska omständigheter kan ätlig groda dock föröka sig även utan att återkorsa med sina föräldraarter. I Höjeådalen är ätlig groda, enligt min erfarenhet, den vanligaste grodarten, inte vanlig groda (Rana temporaria), som man kunde tänka sig på grund av namnet.

Every year in late spring, a concert takes place in the ponds of Höjeå valley. Males of the edible frog (Pelophylax kl. esculentus) try to win the hearts of the females with sometimes deafening croaking. The most popular places are the mill pond in Klostergården's horse pasture and the small pond between the second and third ponds of Lund's sewage treatment plant. The edible frog is not a biological species in a strict sense, but rather a hybrid between the pool frog (Pelophylax lessonae) and the marsh frog (Pelophylax ridibundus). Due to special genetic circumstances, however, the edible frog can reproduce even without backcrossing with its parent species. In the Höjeå valley, the edible frog is according to my own experience the most common frog species, and not the common frog (Rana temporaria), whose name suggests otherwise.
