A tribute to the American author Jack Kerouac (1922-1969), key figure in the so-called Beat Generation of the 1950’s. The film was shot in October 1997 in Kerouac’s hometown Lowell, Massachusetts, where – for many years – an independent group of local Beat aficionados has been organizing an event called “Lowell Celebrates Kerouac!” In 1997, the event marked the 40th anniversary of the publication of Kerouac’s most influential work, the novel “On the Road”, and the 75th birthday of the author.
The film contains interviews with local people from Lowell along with well-known artists and writers who met Kerouac. Also, the film features readings by Kerouac on the soundtrack and images from New York.
Appearing in the film:
Roger Brunelle (tour-guide in Lowell).
Phil Chaput (co-organizer of Lowell Celebrates Kerouac!).
Mark Hemenway (head of Lowell Celebrates Kerouac!).
Joyce Johnson (Kerouac’s girlfriend around the time of the publication of “On the Road” in 1957, and author of many book, including the Kerouac memoir “Minor Characters”).
Conrad Rooks (filmmaker).
John Sampas (Kerouac’s brother-in-law, representative of the Kerouac Estate).
Anne Waldman (poet, director of Jack Kerouac School of Disembodied Poetics, Naropa Institute, Boulder, Colorado).

A film by Lars Movin & Steen Møller Rasmussen (1998, 35 min.).
