🦴 Strong Bones for Life: The Foundation for Healthy Ageing | Mind Your Being – Episode 6
Bones are not static or inert — they are living, highly active tissue that constantly adapts throughout our lives. In this episode of Mind Your Being, host Cass is joined by exercise physiologist and bone health researcher Dr Tracey Clissold to explore how we can build and maintain strong bones at every stage of life.
This conversation is especially relevant for women in midlife, those navigating perimenopause and menopause, and anyone interested in healthy ageing and osteoporosis prevention.
In this episode, we discuss:
• How bone health changes from childhood through to older age
• What bones are made of and how osteoblasts and osteoclasts work together
• Why peak bone mass is largely established before age 30
• The link between bone health and the immune system
• What actually causes bone loss as we age
• The most effective types of exercise for bone density, including weight-bearing exercise, resistance training, and high-intensity exercise
• Why women need to step out of the “comfort zone” to stimulate bone strength
• How nutrition for bone health matters — including calcium, vitamin D, and protein
• Practical strategies for osteoporosis prevention and falls prevention
• Dr Clissold’s research and the Osteo-Gains app, designed to support skeletal health and healthy ageing
This episode is packed with evidence-based, practical advice to help you protect your skeleton, improve functional fitness, and build strength for life.
