Although, NATO’s Strategic Concept still lists international terrorism, fragility, and instability in the Middle East and North Africa, and China among the future threats, both the Madrid Summit agenda and the text of the new Strategic Concept are dominated by the tasks to deter Russia and increase the defence capabilities of the region.

The panel aims to address the following issues:

What will be the long-term impacts of the war in Ukraine on the security environment of Central Europe?
What could be the secondary impacts of the war on the security of the region such as increased migratory pressure, strengthened organized crime, or challenges in the security of energy and food supply?
What could be China’s reaction and will it have any impact on Central Europe?
What are the key challenges for Central Europe until 2050, and what will be the role of NATO to cope with these challenges?
