Do you think tourism to Belfast is primarily linked in our troubled history? We get questioned about our time in Belfast and how it effected us as a family growing up
Belfast’s peace walls are a series of separation barriers constructed starting in 1969, mainly in the west and north of the city, designed to prevent violence between Catholic/nationalist (Falls Road) and Protestant/unionist (Shankill Road) communities. Originally built as temporary measures by the British Army during the Troubles, these barriers—some now 7.5 meters high—became permanent, with more in place today than at the 1998 Good Friday
The best and most iconic part of the Belfast Peace Wall to visit is Cupar Way in West Belfast, where the barrier is at its highest, longest, and most covered in, murals, and international messages. It offers the most impactful, accessible experience situated directly between the Falls and Shankill
