Action from the opening day of Britain's top rally, which was running in 1996 outside of its normal position as the closing round of the World Rally Championship. In addition, the first day's action would take crews to forest stages instead of the traditional stately-home tests.
This end-of-day report was produced by BBC Top Gear Rally Report and presented by John Leslie, with additional reporting by Mark James, Tony Mason and Ivan Gaskell.
