Sailing between the Cape Verde islands feels very different than we expected.
Even though the distances between the islands are relatively short, you’re still out in the open Atlantic — hundreds of miles away from the mainland. And that changes everything.
In this episode, we leave Sal behind and sail overnight to São Nicolau. What looked like a short passage on the map turned into another rough ride — with gusty winds, confused seas, and a broken autopilot.
But as always… the reward comes after the challenge.
We arrive in Carriçal, a remote fishing village surrounded by rugged volcanic landscapes and unexpected green valleys. A place that instantly slows you down and reminds you why we choose this life.

Join me on an inspiring journey that began with buying and refitting my Reinke Super 10 sailboat called KARL. Facing the challenges of solo sailing as a female sailor, I navigated the highs and lows of single-handed sailing while tackling DIY boat repair projects, from engine fixes to full boat refits on a budget.
