The Dusty Key is an essential item in Old School RuneScape that allows players to unlock the gate separating the eastern and western sections of Taverley Dungeon. Without this key, you won't be able to access key areas such as the blue dragons, black demons, and poison spiders, which are important for Slayer tasks, clue steps, and farming dragon bones.
To obtain the Dusty Key, you’ll need to go into the dungeon and head toward the jail section, located near the lesser demons. There, you’ll find a jail guard who you must kill in order to get the Jail Key. Use the Jail Key to unlock the cell where a friendly NPC named Velrak the Explorer is being held. Once freed, Velrak will thank you and give you the Dusty Key as a reward.
Alternatively, if you have 70 Agility, you can bypass the gate entirely by using the pipe shortcut located just west of the entrance. This shortcut takes you directly to the deeper part of the dungeon, meaning you'll never need the Dusty Key again.
